Sudan Armed Forces 'On Path to Self-Destruction'

The once mighty Sudanese Armed Forces have made military and political errors that have increased the possibility of their disintegration and the collapse of the Sudanese state, argues Harry Verhoeven, Senior Research Scholar at the Center on Global Energy Policy, Columbia University . He says the ongoing civil war could be the trigger for an implosion, "but not the underlying cause".

The Sudan Armed Forces have suffered numerous setbacks at the hands of the Rapid Support Forces, who have overrun most of Darfur and swathes of South Kordofan in the west of the country.
