Russia's Foreign, Defense Ministers Visit Sahel States

As part of an Africa tour, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov - along with the country's Defense Chief - is visiting several African nations, including Guinea, Congo and Libya. This week they are due to hold talks with leaders of the Sahel, which has been described by Analysts as Russia's attempt to establish its troops in the region after military leaders seized power, sparking ideological differences over the presence of American and French forces..

Several hundred people reportedly gathered in Chad's capital, N'djamena, to welcome Lavrov. The Chadian government said Lavrov will discuss "efficient methods" to combat terrorism, and "enhance military, diplomatic, economic and trade ties between Chad and Russia".
