At least nine people were killed and more than 40 injured when a fire set off explosions at a military ammunition depot in N'Djamena.

Health Minister Abdelmadjid Abderahim said 46 people were in an "extremely serious" condition and that the death toll could increase. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.

President Mahamat Deby Itno ordered an investigation into the fire and ordered the mobilization of firefighters and the military to assure the safety of civilians amid the panic caused by the blasts.
