Former DR Congo President Kabila Says No to New Constitution

DR Congo's former president Joseph Kabila has criticized President Felix Tshisekedi after the incumbent announced plans to establish a commission to explore revisions to the country's Constitution, potentially eliminating term limits and paving the way for a third term in office.

Tshisekedi was sworn into office in January 2024 after winning a contested re-election in December. He outlined plans to revise the Constitution, which was ratified by referendum in 2005.

Several opposition figures have expressed concern about what they view as Tshisekedi's attempts to maintain power.
