Ending Gavi's Funding May Lead to a Million Deaths

The U.S. government's decision to end its support for Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, which has saved 17 million children over 25 years, will have devastating global consequences, warns Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

The loss of U.S. support to Gavi is projected to deny about 75 million children routine vaccinations in the next five years, potentially leading to 1,2 million deaths. MSF, which relies on Gavi-procured vaccines through health ministries, said this reverses decades of progress, particularly in hard-to-reach and conflict-affected areas.

This is the latest in a series of cuts to foreign aid made by President Donald Trump since taking office on January 20. In line with his "America First" policy, around 80% of contracts have been abruptly terminated.
