Human Rights Abuses in East Africa 'Risk Regional Stability'
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has called on governments in the East Africa region to recommit to regional human rights obligations, warning that non-compliance with key international treaties and weak cooperation frameworks are posing threats to citizens in the region.
The warning from the Kenyan legal body comes as Kenya's National Commission on Human Rights warns of delayed treaty reporting and a surge in socioeconomic rights violations, which have fueled unrest across the country.
"A strong East African Community cannot be built on fear, suppression, or selective compliance. Partner states must embrace cooperation grounded in humanity, accountability, and respect for the rule of law," LSK President Faith Odhiambo said in a statement.
