Namibian President Sacks Police Chief After Security Breach

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has not officially disclosed the reasons for Inspector General Joseph Shikongo's dismissal, but the move follows a security breach at State House when an intruder reached the President's private quarters undetected.

The incident has drawn sharp public criticisms, including from former Inspector General Sebastian Ndeitunga, who described the failure as an exposure of "catastrophic weaknesses" throughout the police chain of command.

Shikongo, 62, had served in the role since 2022, following his appointment by Nandi-Ndaitwah's predecessor, the late President Hage Geingob.
