Africa: Show Off Your Photography and Be Eligible for a Prize

21 June 2001

Washington, DC — Our special coverage of the African Solar Eclipse of 2001 has relied on photographs sent to us from a Williams College expedition to gather scientific data on the sun's corona. We'd like to see photos from your expeditions -- whether you're from Africa or elsewhere, whether you've traveled thousands of miles or just around the corner. If you have photographs of African people, places or events, we'd love to see them.

Email us your photographs, preferably in a jpg. format, to: photos@allafrica.com. Please do not send photos by post, as we cannot return them.

Be sure to include in the email:

1. your name

2. where and approximately when the photograph was taken,

3. a brief title that explains the subject, and

4. the way you would like your photo credited if it is used on our site.

Everyone who sends a photograph will be eligible to receive a two-part prize: a copy of The Peterson Field Guide to the Stars and Planets, signed by the author, Professor Jay Pasachoff, and a CD of sensational Senegalese musician Youssou N'Dour called "Joko (The Link)". All photographs received by September 1, 2001 will be entered in a drawing to determine the winner. The more photos you send, the greater your odds of winning.

If your photo is chosen, we'll email you and request a postal address to which to mail your prize. If you send us a photo and your email address changes between now and September 15, please send us an update.

Please note that by entering the contest, you give AllAfrica the unrestricted right to use your photographs on allAfrica.com. We will properly credit all photos used. If your photo is copyrighted, you will retain the copyright and we will display a copyright notice in the credit line.

We are grateful to all participants and we look forward to seeing your images.
