Liberial Police Investigate the Burning of the National Transit Authority Administrative Building

Monrovia — The Managing Director of the National Transit Authority (NTA), Herbie McCauley has sent an SOS call to the public and the Government of Liberia's international partners to come to the institution's aid after its administration building was gutted by fire early Thursday.

The NTA suffered a massive lost when the main building completely burned in the early hours of Thursday, destroying cash, equipment, furniture and stationeries.

Addressing reporters in the aftermath of the incident, Mr. McCauley said the amount of L$890,000, US$600 and Nine Million Leones were among items that were incinerated.

The destruction of the building and other important documents, according to him, have left management in dire strait.

"We want to take this time to appeal to institutions and international partners to come to the aid of the National Transit Authority," he said.

"We are in a very desperate situation right now. We don't have offices; we don't have computers to operate with. We are appealing to you, international partners, please come to our aid so we can be able to serve the people of Liberia."

Despite the suspension of work on Thursday due the incident, the NTA Managing Director announced that the entity will resume work today, Friday, May 6. He apologized for the inconvenience and said investigation has got underway to ascertain the cause of the fire.

He said: "Unfortunately today we were unable to serve our customers because of the sadden news of the burning, but we want to assure the public that tomorrow we will be out there to serve the public. We are very sorry for not being able to be out there today. But we can assure the customers that tomorrow we will serve them. It breaks everybody's heart, most especially the family at the NTA, and the management."
