Abuja, Nigeria, 28 September 2022 - The ECA, UNDP, DESA and UNICEF are jointly organising a regional training workshop titled "Integrated National Financing Frameworks (INFF) and Open Budgets for Sustainable Development in Africa" in Abuja, Nigeria, from 27 to 30 September 2022. The workshop was inaugurated by  Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Nigeria. In attendance are representatives from 52 countries from the continent as well as UN partners and civil society organisations.

The training builds on a four-day online regional workshop held in August 2021, which brought the African INFF community of practice together with other senior decision makers to share experiences in drafting financing strategies, setting up SDG financing dialogues and implementing open budget reforms, among others.

The main goal of the INFF project is to strengthen the capacity of government officials with special focus on setting up SDG financing dialogues, developing financing strategies and promoting budget openness.

This week in Abuja, 16 countries have so far exchanged views on the INFF implementation process, including integrating climate into the INFF process, bringing private capital as part of the INFF financing strategies, debt management, tax reforms, local finance and decentralisation.

The event is expected to strengthen the INFF capacities of government officials, UN staff and other stakeholders. It is also an opportunity to promote knowledge-sharing among countries, as they brainstorm around lessons learned. Peer learning is also expected to generate a regional dialogue around emerging trends and issues that affect the rollout of INFFs and open budget reforms.
