The African Development Bank, in collaboration with the Chamber of Pharmaceutical Industry, will host a Pharmaceutical Investment Roundtable in Cairo, Egypt, on 7 February 2024. The Roundtable will bring together 25 medium-sized pharmaceutical companies, leading local commercial banks, and experts from the African Development Bank.

The roundtable will offer leading Egyptian pharmaceutical firms an opportunity to learn more about the African Development Bank's pharmaceutical plan, its tailored financial offerings for medium enterprises and innovative financing. It will also provide a platform for local commercial banks to explain their existing financing instruments.

Participants will explore financing strategies that can transform Egypt's pharmaceutical industry by extending support to medium-sized pharmaceutical companies. Such companies represent 40% of the sector in Egypt. They will also participate in direct business-to-business meetings and networking opportunities with sector players and financial institutions.

A series of Pharmaceutical Investment Clinics will follow the Roundtable. These clinics will enable the financing partners to have an overview of medium sized plans and financing needs

The Roundtable, a follow-up to the Pharmaceutical Investment Forum that was held in October 2023 in collaboration with the Egyptian African Businessmen's Association,

Egypt boasts the largest production and consumption of medicines in the MENA region, with an estimated market value exceeding $56 billion and medicine exports contributing $400 million to the economy. Therefore, the country's role in African and global value chains is paramount.

The African Development Bank prioritizes the pharmaceutical industry for business development and investments.
