NHIF RATES ROW: COTU issues a two-week strike notice. NHIF insists employers have to remit new rates.
The NHIF board, the Ministry of Labor and the Central Organization of Trade Unions are set to embark on fresh negotiations to avert a looming strike by all workers over the new, increased NHIF medical insurance rates. During this year's Labor Day celebrations held at Uhuru Park, Nairobi, Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka directed the stakeholders to engage in dialogue over the matter. COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli had earlier publicly served Labour Minister John Munyes with a 2 - week strike notice, saying the umbrella workers' union read politics and corruption in the implementation of new NHIF scheme. But, as Willis Raburu reports, NHIF CEO Richard Kerich disputes Atwoli's claims.
