The Marikana Commission has heard how a Lonmin miner's toe was amputated after he was allegedly shot by police in August 2012.
The rock drill operator said he was forced to take drastic action because police had cornered him and his colleagues in with barbed wire. Siphethe Phatsha claims the gunfire that injured him came from a helicopter. He was testifying at the inquiry into the massacre that left 44 people dead.
