As thousands of teachers took to the streets in protest, hundreds of schoolchildren were left to fend for themselves in the classroom. One Soweto teenager is especially concerned about the impact the strike is having on his matric year.

Meanwhile.....Federation of trade unions Cosatu has threatened more strike action in support of the Sadtu strike if President Jacob Zuma does not comply with the teachers' union demands. Sadtu has given the Presidency 21 days to respond to its memorandum.
