An African Development Bank (AfDB) Regional Integration Strategy Paper (RISP) for Eastern Africa will be validated at a workshop scheduled to take place on 11 November in Nairobi, Kenya. The RISP covers Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. It is designed to support for regional infrastructure and institutional capacity building, including trade facilitation.
The AfDB Board of Directors adopted a Regional Integration Strategy (RIS) for 2009-2012 in March 2009. The RIS commits the Bank to preparing four Regional Integration Strategy Papers (RISPs) with the objective of, inter alia:
Providing a framework for streamlining regional integration into Bank activities;
Aligning the Bank's Country Strategy Papers with national development strategies and the strategic objectives of Regional Economic Communities (RECs);
Identifying areas for proposed Bank intervention and for closer collaboration and partnership with key stakeholders; and
Identifying the Regional Public Goods the AfDB could potentially fund.
