Rail transportation has been proven to be a highly economical and energy efficient means of transit. In Lagos, rail is a viable alternative to the already overburdened road network, where traffic jams are the order of the day. The Lagos-Ibadan rail plan hopes to bring some relief to motorists, and although the cost of building railways is higher than roads, its maintenance however is lower and reduces the intense pressure on roads, writes Chiemelie Ezeobi for This Day.
