Disastrous Sahel Crisis Fuelled by Politics, Conflict and Crime

The "terrible reality" of the disastrous crisis in the Sahel results from the interlinking of multiple conflicts, according to Ahmedou Ould Abdallah, a veteran retired United Nations diplomat  who is president of the Centre for Strategies and Security for the Sahel Sahara (Centre4s) in Nouakchott. He outlines the issues that need to be addressed at the upcoming  G5 Sahel Summit and the Alliance for the Sahel in Mauritania - the political crisis in Mali, escalating violence across the five-nation region and rising criminal activities.
