Buhari Asks Chief Judge to Free Prisoners Due to COVID-19 Threat

President Muhammadu Buhari has called for urgent and speedy trials, urging the chief justice to free prison inmates who have been awaiting trial for six years or more, to ease overcrowding as COVID-19 spreads. Borno State, ravaged by a decade of attacks by Boko Haram militants, has ordered a lockdown for 14 days to stem the spread of COVID-19, after a nurse who worked with Doctors Without Borders died from the virus.
