Niger Delta Probe Hears of Death Threats, Fake Project Numbers

The Niger Delta Development Corporation (NDDC) was established in 2000 by the Nigerian government to develop the oil-rich Niger Delta Region. In recent weeks, allegations of corruption and mismanagement led the government to establish a commission to investigate. Since then it has been established that over U.S.$108 million in funds have been misappropriated. Chairperson of the investigating committee Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has said that he is receiving death threats from militants in the Niger Delta region, while testimony by the NDDC acting managing director Kemebradikumo Pondei included that the national assembly "padded" the number of projects being undertaken by the NDDC.
