Anxiety Grips Kenya Cabinet As Kenyatta Sends Ministers On Leave

President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed all ministers and principal secretaries to proceed on a compulsory 14-day leave, triggering speculation of a major reshuffle. Head of Public Service James Kinyua has dismissed the rumours and reports, saying that it will enable the officials to recharge. The move comes as Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, are not seeing eye-to-eye on a few issues - the Building Bridges Initiative where the president's handshake with opposition politician Raila Odinga was interpreted as Kenyatta reneging on his promise to support Ruto's candidature for 2022, as well as DP Ruto criticising the anti-corruption commission - saying it was weaponised to target those who are perceived to be close to him.
