Rethink the Reopening of Schools, Nigeria Govt Urged

Learners have returned to school today, January 18, 2021 but the House of Representatives has asked the government to postpone the reopening by three months, due to the increasing number of deaths attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. The committee wants the government to first monitor compliance in communities and the readiness of schools in ensuring Covid-19 safety protocols. The recent spike in Covid-19 cases has caused anxiety among parents who are calling on the government to change its decision. Nigeria is currently battling a second wave of the pandemic, with more than 110,387 confirmed cases and over 1,435 deaths.
