Zanzibar on Track to Eliminate Malaria By 2027 - Govt
Zanzibar is fully committed to working with development partners to make the island malaria-free by 2027, Health Minister Nassor Ahmed Mazrui has said. Mazrui said the Isle has made tremendous and admirable achievements in its fight against the disease. He noted that the goal is intended to contain the problem in all parts of Tanzania, so that citizens and visitors need not worry about contracting it.
Salum Slim, director of preventive services in the health ministry, commended the launch of the U.S.$27 million Tanzania Malaria Case Management (TMCM) project for Zanzibar and the mainland Tanzania.
When the project started in 2005 the malaria prevalence rate was at 31% but has been reduced to 0.1% currently.
