World Evacuates as Battles Continue in Streets of Sudan Capital

U.S. troops have begun evacuating embassy staff as Sweden plans to send its own forces to support evacuation. Earlier, the RSF claimed it had "coordinated with the US Forces Mission consisting of six aircraft, for evacuating diplomats and their families on Sunday morning". The operation evacuated fewer than 100 people, US officials told reporters.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said on Sunday afternoon that British diplomats have all been evacuated, while South Africa's government confirmed that 77 of their citizens remain in Sudan.

"Evacuation of SA nationals in #Sudan. Our nationals & embassy staff are on their way out of #Khartoum. I can't disclose the security & logistics of the operation. But they are moving out. We are in constant contact with them, a tweet from government official Clayson Monyela reads.

Meanwhile, a facility that provides a haven for rescued animals, including 25 lions, is running low on food and power amid the heavy fighting, the Sudan Animal Rescue Center said in an update.
