Campaigning Lesotho Radio Personality Killed

Tsénolo FM station manager Mshengu Shabalala said popular radio presenter Ralikonelo Joki was murdered shortly after the end of his Hlokoana La Tsela (I heard it from the grapevine) current affairs programme.

The Daily Maverick reports that the country is under a nationwide curfew which began on Tuesday May 16, 2023 in response to rising crime rates and to Joki's murder on Sunday night in Maseru.

A media colleague described Joki, affectionately called Qhashi or Leqhashasha (a devil may care), as a person who had a passion for investigative stories and unearthing the rot in the public service.

The New York-based Committee for the Protection of Journalists called for a credible investigation of the killing. "Authorities in Lesotho must thoroughly investigate the killing... and ensure those responsible are brought to justice," said Angela Quintal, CPJ's Africa program coordinator.
