Chinese Navy Makes 'Rare' Visit to Nigeria
More than 700 members of China's are visiting Nigeria's Lagos from July 2, to July 6, 2023 to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries, Leadership reports. Approximately 700 sailors are on board.
The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Chi Jian Chun, said that the visit will also enhance maritime security within West Africa.
In 2016, China donated a naval patrol ship to the Nigerian navy to assist in its efforts to step up security in the Gulf of Guinea where cargo ships have been under increasing attacks from pirates in recent years. The Nigerian navy has also joined with naval units from France and Italy, to offer protection in the gulf.
