Silence on 2-Year AU Probe of Tigray Human Rights Violations

The African Union's Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights has closed the mandate of the Commission of Inquiry on the situation in the Tigray region - the first commission to monitor reports of grave human rights violations in the peak of Ethiopia's war in the region, Addis Standard reported.

In many respects, life in Tigray is beginning to get back to some semblance of normalcy, like children returning to school and writing examinations. Also, the cessation of hostilities agreement enabled pregnant women to receive the medical attention they need at a newly established maternity waiting home.

However, Ethiopia Watch's report called for more inclusivity in peace talks and found "disturbing gaps" as well as revealing that it is "dangerous to claim that Ethiopia is now at peace".
