French Montana Donates 500 Canoes to Makoko Community in Nigeria

Moroccan-U.S. rapper French Montana has donated 500 canoes to the Makoko community in Nigeria, where he filmed his music video for the single "Wish U Well".

The Makoko community, often referred to as the "Venice of Africa," is a floating slum built on stilts off the coast of Lagos and is often at risk of flooding. Its residents predominantly rely on fishing as their primary source of livelihood, navigating the labyrinthine waterways using handmade wooden canoes. The canoes will help the residents to get around and transport goods and services.

Montana has previously donated to other underserved communities in Africa, including building a health center in Uganda. He said he was inspired to give back to Makoko after meeting with local leaders and seeing their daily struggles. The donation is part of Montana's ongoing commitment to helping communities in need.
