President Tinubu Calls For Unity as Nigeria Turns 63

President Bola Tinubu has called on all Nigerians to join him in efforts to remake Nigeria into a better place for all citizens, Leadership reports.

The president further called for unity, courage, compassion, and commitment to nation-building, declaring his unwavering dedication to serving the nation faithfully.

Nigeria has been struggling with security issues for over a decade, with attacks by militants Boko Haram, ISWAP. The northeast of the country has been hardest hit and has suffered both economic hardship and food shortages. In July 2023, the UN reported of possible famine in the region as farming has been severely hampered by attacks.

Since Tinubu came into office on May 29, 2023, there has been several changes made to government departments and security agencies. The one change that has hit hard is the suspension of the controversial fuel subsidy, which has given rise to protests across Nigeria as citizens bemoan the high cost of living and the hike in fuel prices. Tinubu announced a six-month palliative to assist, and in his Independence Day speech on October 1, 2023, he announced a pay increase for junior federal workers.
