World Increasingly Hostile to Children's Rights - UNICEF
UNICEF estimates that there are 400 million children - or about 1 child in every 5 - are living in or fleeing from conflict zones. This leaves them vulnerable to injuries, sexual violation, and even death.
"Each year on November 20, we mark World Children's Day to commemorate the 1989 adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) - the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history," said UNICEF Executive Director, Catherine Russell.
The UN has verified more than 315,000 grave child rights violations in areas under conflict between 2005 and 2022. This World Children's Day, the UN agency urged all in the child rights community governments, civil society organizations, and the private sector - to be stronger champions and advocates for the fulfillment and protection of children's rights.
