Nigeria’s Poverty Minister Suspended Over Alleged Fund Fraud

In a major development, President Bola Tinubu suspended Minister Betta Edu under a cloud of explosive corruption accusations.

Leaked documents allege Edu diverted over 585 million naira (U.S.$640,000) into a civil servant's private account, sparking protests and dominating news headlines. Her office said she had approved the transfer into a personal account, which was not in her name, but said it was for the "implementation of grants to vulnerable groups".

Tinubu ordered a comprehensive investigation into all Ministry transactions to uncover the truth, while Edu maintains the transfer was for legitimate grant implementation.
