Nigeria's Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso to Form New Party?

Nigeria's Atiku Abubakar of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the Nigeria People's Party (NPP) have agreed to form a new party, according to political economist, Professor Pat Utomi, Vanguard reports.

The aim of the party is wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. Atiku and Obi sought to reverse February 2023's presidential election result which was won by Bola Tinubu (APC), alleging it was marred by irregularities.

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal upheld Tinubu's victory and Atiku and Obi filed appeals with the Supreme Court to nullify the judgment. The Supreme Court dismissed the case.
