Concerns Grow as Violence Erupts in Ethiopia's Tigray

Several diplomatic missions, including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, have expressed concern after violent clashes in the Raya Alamata district of the South Tigray Zone. The embassies stress the importance of all parties progressing towards disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR), and ensuring the safe return of internally displaced persons.

According to the latest reports from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), nearly 29,000 people have been displaced to Kobo town and Sekota town in the Amhara region, face critical shortages of food, water, and essential resources, highlighting the urgent need for humanitarian aid.

Despite differing narratives on the cause of violence, including allegations from the Amhara regional government against the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), displaced families continue to suffer, with only informal assistance provided by communities due to limited resources.
