Several Sudanese Children Killed in Another Hospital Attack

The UN Children's Fund, UNCEF, has condemned an attack on the Saudi Hospital in El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, in what is becoming a recurring theme in the ongoing fighting. "This heinous attack is a blatant violation of children's rights. Children are being killed and injured in the very places where they should be safest from harm," UNICEF's Executive Director, Catherine Russell, said.

Recently, another attack killed dozens of people, including patients receiving critical care.

The Saudi Teaching Maternal Hospital, a critical obstetrics, pediatrics, and surgery resource, has been repeatedly shelled, and this attack marks the latest escalation in Sudan's 20-month civil war - a brutal power struggle between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). The crisis has caused a humanitarian crisis that has killed over 20,000 people and displaced over 11 million, according to the UN.

Clementine Nkweta-Salami, UN resident and humanitarian coordinator in Sudan, described the attacks as a "shocking violation of international humanitarian law" and an "alarming disregard for human life".
