Uganda Discharges Eight Ebola Patients, Contacts Quarantined

Uganda has discharged eight people who have recovered from Ebola, while 265 contacts remain under strict quarantine and monitoring in Kampala, Jinja, and Mbale. An outbreak of the Sudan strain of the virus was declared in January following the death of a male nurse in Kampala.

There is currently no vaccine for that strain although a trial programme is underway.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and partners have supported the health authorities in rolling out a comprehensive response since the disease outbreak on 30 January 2025. This It includes strengthening early detection, clinical care, infection prevention and control, as well as community engagement.
