Togo Suspends French Broadcasters Over 'Biased' Reporting

The government has suspended RFI and France 24, accusing the networks of "inaccurate and biased" reporting which it claims undermines the country's image.  A statement from the High Authority for Audiovisual Communication said that "freedom of the press cannot be synonymous with disinformation or interference".

The management of the networks said they were surprised to learn of the suspension "without notice," stressing that their broadcast has been ethical and compliant with an agreement signed with the Togolese government.

Reporters Without Borders said the suspension "constitutes a serious attack on press freedom and the right to information".
