Malawi Runs Dry as Fuel Crisis Turns Critical

The government has warned that the country is now "dangerously exposed" as the fuel crisis deepens, severely disrupting transportation, commerce, and daily life. In a statement, government spokesperson Shadric Namalomba attributed the shortage to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and a critical lack of foreign exchange.

Namalomba said international suppliers are now demanding upfront cash payments, further straining the nation's ability to import fuel.

He said the government is making urgent efforts to stabilize the situaion, including entering negotiations with Afrexim Bank for a $120 million loan. As public pressure mounts, officials have appealed for calm and patience, urging Malawians to cooperate while the administration scrambles to secure a lasting solution.
