Nigerian Police Dismiss Rumors of Armed Bandit Invasion in Lagos

Police in Lagos have moved to calm the public after reports that armed bandits invaded several communities and are targeting school children. According to a police statement, the fake security alert has already led to a "tragic and avoidable loss of life" after a group of youths killed a motorcycle rider.

"Individuals found responsible for originating, publishing, or deliberately circulating false and inciting information capable of causing public alarm, disorder, ethnic tension, or violence will be investigated and prosecuted," the statement read.
