Uganda Arrests Former Deputy Defence Chief Over Subversion Claims
The Ugandan army statement announcing the arrest of former Deputy Chief of Defence Forces Peter Elwelu, describing him as a "renegade" officer. The arrest follows claims by Uganda's Defence Chief and President Yoweri Museveni's son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who said he had stripped Elwelu of his Lieutenant General rank, demoted him to private, and declared him a fugitive.
Kainerugaba had accused Elwelu of stockpiling weapons, ordering him to surrender and warning that anyone aiding his escape would face "serious consequences".
