Matatu Strike Off to Slow Start in Nairobi

The 10-day general strike has taken off in a very subdued manner. A spot check in several parts of the country indicates some matatu operators have heeded the call. However, in some other parts it was mostly business as usual. Prime Minister Raila Odinga is shortly expected to hold talks with officials from Cotu and the Matatu Welfare Association, to try and resolve the impasse.
