Ethics Body Claims Vetting of Kenya's Presidential Candidates

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has disowned a proposed three-pronged vetting process of persons seeking elective seats in the March 4, 2013, general election. The anti-graft body insists that it was the only commission with the express constitutional mandate to enforce Chapter 6 of the constitution on leadership and integrity, and disclosed that it was already working on procedures and mechanisms of ensuring that aspirants eyeing various elective seats were Chapter 6 compliant. The EACC stand came as the Law Society of Kenya insisted that constitutional commissions had no mandate to vet political aspirants and that only directives from courts of law could block their bids.
