Winnie Madikizela Mandela passed away at the age of 81. Her Brandfort home where she was banished by the Apartheid goverment was supposed to have been turned into a museum. The Free State government neglected to do so with the R6 million it received in total for the project.

The 2017 report on the matter below, shows that nothing had been done.

This year marks 40 years since ANC struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela Mandela was banished by the Apartheid government at the small Free State town of Brandfort in the Free State in 1977. The house in which she lived for many years is derelict. For years it has been earmarked for renovations, but this vision remains just a pipe dream.
