Guinea succeeded in eliminating the mighty "Super Eagles" of Nigeria to finish top of their group in the qualifying rounds to reach the finals. Placed in the same group as Ghana, Mali and Botswana, however, they narrowly failed to get through to the quarter-finals, pushed out by Mali's performance in its final game against Botswna.
