Amoako to Meet President Mkapa, Senior Officials On Visit to Tanzania

Addis Ababa — Addis Ababa, 10 September 2002 (ECA) -- Economic Commission for Africa Executive Secretary K.Y. Amoako today begins a three-day official visit to Tanzania during which he will meet with President Benjamin Mkapa.

Mr. Amoako's discussions during the visit will focus on four broad areas: the challenges of implementing the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD); the way forward for the African Union; Globalization and ECA's support to African countries in the World Trade Organization (WTO) negotiations; and Tanzania's relations with its development partners.

Among other senior officials, Mr. Amoako is also scheduled to meet Finance Minister Mr. Basil Mramba, Planning and Privatization Minister Mr. Abdallah O.

Kigoda, Mr. D.T.S. Ballali, Governor of the Central Bank, and a senior Government official in the Foreign Ministry. Activities during the visit will also include briefings for the media and policy community.
