The Electoral Commission of Kenya published provisional results at 6.30pm Kenyan time confirming the numbers it had published earlier, saying that challenger Raila Odinga had won 1,534,293 votes so far, to President Mwai Kibaki's 1,122,924.

But The Nation's figures were adjusted to show Odinga had a much narrower lead than it had reported earlier: 3,880,053 votes to Kibaki's 3,842,051 Kibaki. It said results had been reported in 189 of 210 constituencies.
