"The Egyptian Company for Mobile Services, Mobinil, will launch its 3G mobile network in Egypt on September 1, immediately before the start of the (Islamic holy) month of Ramadan," MENA said, citing remarks by Commercial Vice President Guillaume Van Gaver.

Mobinil will present a case study at North Africa Com 08, being held in Cairo on October 14-15, just over a month after the launch of the 3G services!

On November 1st, 2005 Alex Shalaby stepped up to become President and CEO of one of Egypt's leading corporations, Mobinil.   Alex Shalaby was Chief Officer of Regulatory Affairs for Mobinil from 1998 to 2005 and was responsible for the licensing and regulations required for setting up Mobinil as the first mobile operator in Egypt.

As former Executive Vice President of Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH) and continuing to be one of its board members, Shalaby's regional experience proved invaluable as OTH expands its global footprint.

Shalaby graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Alexandria University's Faculty of Engineering, Egypt, in 1966; he also has a Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from San Jose State University, USA.

Shalaby’s goal as President & CEO has been right from the start to keep the personality of Mobinil, while making certain it maintained its leadership position despite the fierce competition that has existed in a rapidly changing market.

Mobinil is not just a large commercial entity traded on the stock exchange, and this is often thanks to Shalaby's policy of supporting many social and philanthropic projects.

Mr Shalaby will be joining an array of CxO speakers participating at this year’s North Africa Event.
