Guinea: African Union Suspends Country Over Coup

29 December 2008

The African Union (AU) has suspended Guinea from taking part in all AU activities until the country returns to civilian rule under the constitution.

The AU's Peace and Security Council said  in a statement issued from its headquarters in Addis Ababa that a meeting of the council held on Monday had reiterated its "firm condemnation" of the coup, which was "a flagrant violation of the Constitution of Guinea and of the relevant AU instruments."

The council demanded that Guinea "return to constitutional order," the statement said, and suspended the country under AU legislation dealing with unconstitutional changes of government.

The AU said it was coordinating its efforts to return Guinea rapidly to civilian rule with the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas). It added that the chairman of the AU Commission, Jean Ping, was already in touch with with the perpetrators of the coup.

The AU moves is highly welcome, but what others does not understand is that the suituation in Zimbabwe is quiet different from what is happening in CONAKRY. I swear that the west should be blame for the zimbabweans suffering in another hand the Mdc leadership is also a complice to this sufferings.Mugabe can be a dictator or whatever we are calling him but is far more better than Morgan, who is a really pupet and someone who will only be in for the west intrest in zimbabwe. Am an african i also sympatise with my fellow zimbabwean brothers and… [Read Full Text]

Yeah, Mugabe says "Zimbabwe is mine" and the foreigners are responsible. Mugabe says" only God can remove him from power" and the Westerners are responsible. Mugabe says" a ballot cannot remove him from power" and foreigners are responsible. Mugabe says" there is no cholera in Zimbabwe" even though hundreds have died and dozens are still dying, and the foreigners are responsible. The foreigners are responsible for Mugabe holding on to all the MAJOR MINISTIRIES and not wanting to share anything with the opposition. Yes, the foreigners are responsible for all the KILLINGS AND ABDUCTIONS taking place in Zimbabwe by… [Read Full Text]

What actually are your interests as African other than respect for human rights, which is being denied vehemently by your so-called heroes- Mugabe and his likes?

Look, you are mixing apples and oranges. So, let us see if we can sort them out.

Let us begin with Comrade Mugabe's alleged statement that "Zimbabwe is [his]." We merely assert herein that first, the alleged statement is explosively equivocal and, beyond that, it is posited at such a high level of generality or abstraction that the meaning assigned to it depends exclusively on one's disposition to Cde. Mugabe.

Accordingly, the the issue is not a theoretical question; rather, it is, SANS PAREIL, AN AESTHETIC OR AFFECTIVE PROBLEMATIC.

Conceived thus, it obviously falls outside the scope… [Read Full Text]

Who are those who make up [AU] the majority of them are dictators of the first order like Paul Biya of Cameroon. They comdemn the coup just because of fear that it can also happen in their country. The military had been a very strong arm of all these dictators because they use them to mim, kill and oppress the people.most of them are in power just for the military backing that they have.In cameroon the military is the highest paid salary wise and Dictator Biya uses them to oppress the masses when they come out to cry foul to his wantom ugly… [Read Full Text]
