The Amani Africa Command Post Exercise (CPX) will officially kick off on Wednesday, 20 October 2010 at 10:00 at the headquarters of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The CPX is to evaluate the operational effectiveness of the AU Commission to deploy the African Standby Force (ASF). The exercise will use a scenario based on a ficticious country called Carana and make no specific reference to any particular African country.

The opening ceremony will be attended by Dr Jean Ping, Chairperson of the AU Commission, representatives of international organizations and the diplomatic corps. Ambassador Koen Vervaeke, European Union Special Representative and Head of the European Commission Delegation to the African Union, and General Pierre-Michel Joana, Special Advisor for African peacekeeping capabilities will also attend the event.

Journalists are invited to cover the official opening ceremony of the CPX on 20th October at 10h00 in the Plenary Hall of the African Union.

On 26 October, a Media Day will be organized for further interaction between journalists and the African Standby Force Management.

Journalists are also invited to cover the VIP Day on 27 October and a President’s Day on 29 October which is also the closing date of the exercise.
