Senegal: Voters Head Back to Polls On March 25

12 February 2012

The second-round vote in Senegal's elections has been set for March 25 after the official declaration of results showed that no candidate received more than 50 percent of votes cast in the second round.

The incumbent, President Abdoulaye Wade, won 34,81 percent of the vote, and his appeal against the result rejected by the constitutional court, while Macky Sall came second with 26,58 percent of the votes.

According to the ministerial spokesperson in charge of electoral matters, Macoumba Coumé, second-round campaigning had been reduced to 15 days. While civilians will vote on March 25, military and para-military officials will vote on March 17 and 18.
