A delegation from the African Development Bank will conduct a mission to Burkina Faso from 18 to 24 January 2015, to hold talks with senior transitional authorities.

This mission, led by Sibry Tapsoba, Director of the AfDB Transition Support Department, will visit Burkina Faso as part of the transition process the country is undertaking after the fall of president Blaise Compaoré on October 31, 2014.

The international community, through the contact group, has rallied to support Burkina Faso in its transition and help it set its direction, policies and measures to be taken to meet the challenges of the timeline.

After adopting the Charter, the transitional president, Michel Kafando, was chosen by an electoral college. Cherif Sy was appointed President of the National Transition Council (NTC) with a 90-member chamber and a Prime Minister, Isaac Zida, appointed by the President to lead a 25-member government. In meeting the international community timescale, Burkina Faso has taken a new step in its political transformation.

In consultation with the Government, development partners and other actors in political life, the mission will determine priority areas that could be supported by the Bank during the period of transition. The AfDB delegation will also identify concrete actions, on the basis of the Bank's mandate, likely to make a significant contribution to achieving the Transitional Government's goals.
