African Ministers of Finance and Central Bank Governors to discuss Financing for Development partnerships with the private sector at Africa investor CEO Investment Summit during UN General Assembly in New York Johannesburg, South Africa; New York, USA; 25 August 2015:

Africa investor (Ai), a leading international investment and communications group, today announced that key African Ministers of Finance and Central Bank Governors will meet with Africa’s private sector for the first time to discuss private sector partnerships on the implementation of the Financing for Development (FfD) Agenda. These discussions will take place at the Ai CEO Investment Summit on the 24th of September in New York, alongside the UN General Assembly.

The adoption of a new development agenda, and a universal agreement on climate change by the end of 2015, has gained much momentum through the recent FfD Summit in Addis Ababa. This Ai CEO Investment Summit will mark the first time, post the recent FfD Addis Summit, that Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors will engage the business community concretely on its role in the implementation of the FfD Agenda.

In the lead-up to December’s 2015 Paris Climate Conference, as well as the Ai Presidential CEO Summit in January 2016 in Addis Ababa, which will be held in association with the African Union Commission and The NEPAD Agency, these Summit discussions will create an efficient platform to deepen private sector participation in Africa’s fight against poverty, increase intraregional trade and investment as well as the continent’s global competitiveness.

Commenting on the Summit, Hubert Danso, CEO and Vice Chairman of Africa investor, said,Engaging the private sector’s innovation and expertise will be critical to the successful pursuit and implementation of continent’s economic and social development, as well as its overall competitiveness in the global marketplace. We see it as our continued responsibility to respond by using our convening power and communication platforms to facilitate an action agenda through this dialogue during the UN General Assembly."

The annual Ai CEO Investment Summit is an invitation-only CEO business and government forum, designed to facilitate action, to highlight and enhance Africa's investment climate, trade competitiveness and job creation, as well as shed light on Africa’s investment success stories. The Summit will comprise a number of CEO-led panels that will showcase high-growth opportunity sectors and will include feedback from public and private sector leaders working on these issues. Attendees and speakers will include high-level international and domestic leaders from business and government with Africa’s private sector development as high priority.

The Ai CEO Investment Summit will also host an invitation-only African Heads of State and Government Investment Working Lunch, jointly organised by Africa investor, the United Nations Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) and the Global Partnerships Forum. In addition, there will also be a closed-door institutional investor day that will facilitate one-on one meetings between African companies and global institutional investors.

The Ai CEO Investment Summit, and the Ai-UNOSAA African Heads of State and Government Investment Working Lunch, will take place on the 24th of September at the Thomson Reuters offices at 195 Broadway, New York.
